The Focus is on Adult Siblings

Siblings share a special bond and just like parents who have children with disabilities; siblings also are in need of special attention, understanding and support. Most of all, these siblings need to be recognized for their unique contribution to the family system. (Brothers & Sisters, 2006)

As part of Continuity Care’s strategic plan, we are offering focus groups for adult siblings who have a brother or sister with a disability.

The goals of these focus groups are:

  • To bring adult siblings together to share their stories and experiences
  • To identify the specific issues and challenges that they are facing
  • To strategize as to what resources and supports can be accessed and developed
  • To create an opportunity for adult siblings to make some connections and know that they are not alone in this very unique role in the family
